NYT: Asian-Americans Have Had the Sharpest Shift Toward Democrats

It will take a lot of work to reverse these trends, but if Republicans don't, the impact for the future will be devestating.

Asian-Americans make up the racial or ethnic group that has shifted most strongly toward the Democratic Party since 2000. They are also the country’s fastest-growing racial or ethnic group by percentage.

Researchers at Gallup think part of the shift stems from many Asian-Americans’ affinity for President Obama, a fellow member of a minority group who spent part of his childhood in Asia. But Gallup says the move toward Democrats also reflects many Asian-Americans’ opposition to core tenets of the Republican party — which suggests major challenges for Republicans in winning over the group.

The Asian American community is the fastest growing demographic group and has become increasingly active in the American political system, but is widely under-represented.

Minnesotan helps GOP to reach out on race

The Star Tribune: A Minnesotan will serve as a front-line ambassador for the GOP as it takes on one of its greatest challenges: Its shrinking share of votes in minority communities across the country. Hoeun Hach is one of 31 members of the Republican National Committee’s Asian Pacific American Advisory Council, one of three groups the RNC formed to “strengthen ties with minority communities and expand engagement efforts across the country.”

GOP ‘California dreamin” for minority voters

LA PALMA, Calif. — Kwang Song has never voted in the United States, but that could change after the 71-year-old bumped into Michelle Steel, a Republican candidate for the Orange County Board of Supervisors, outside the Hannam Chain Korean market in northern Orange County this month.

Asked, in Korean, what party Ms. Song wanted to register with, she told Mrs. Steel, the same party as you.

The Asian Republican Coalition (ARC) Celebrates Official Unveiling

On Tuesday, the Asian Republican Coalition plans to introduce itself to sitting politicos via a splashy rollout at the Newseum (555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW).

The program — which is expected to feature complimentary speeches by Sens. Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, and Patrick J. Toomey, R-Pa., as well as House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. — kicks off promptly at 6:30 p.m. and flows right into cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Republican Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Dean Heller of Nevada should interrupt the festivities at some to provide their two cents (four cents?) on Asians and the GOP.

Gerald Kern For Arlington City Council District 7 At Large

 http://www.kernfortexas.com/

Gerald is a long time Arlington resident that has raised his family and built his small business here in the district. Gerald studied at the University of Texas at Arlington with a focus on business. While serving in the US Army, he studied at the Medical Department Center and School to be a Psychiatric Specialist. He also attended the US Army Military Intelligence School to serve as a Military Intelligence Analyst. Gerald has continued serving others by remaining active in organizations like Aidmatrix Foundation where he serves on the Governor’s Advisory Board Member. The Aidmatrix Foundation facilitates the donation of relief aid valued over $1.5 billion a year to over 52,000 non profits globally.

In Arlington, the Foundation has saved Mission Arlington over $3 million in medical supplies to help support their clinic. They provide support for over 47 U.S. States, territory and city governments and with members of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. Through partnerships with Feeding America, Global Foodbanking Network, United Nations World Food Programme, and other global food bank and hunger relief programs, Aidmatrix enables more food to be connected with the hungry through our hunger relief solutions. The result is that less food is wasted, and more food makes it to organizations that serve the hungry.

Each month, our food bank partners around the globe move more than 50 million pounds (26.7 mil kilos) of food per month into the hands of over 35,000 local hunger and relief agencies using our solutions The Foundation also provides logistics support to many of the major disasters both locally and abroad. From the West plant explosion, Oklahoma tornadoes, fires in Colorado, Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy, to earthquakes in Haiti, tsunami in Japan, typhoon in the Philippines, relief in Honduras, to warehouse relief support in Jerusalem, just name a few. We have moved medical supplies and resources within our network of clinics, valued at more than $50 million in relief, to date. Free clinics nationwide receive discounted and donated medicines and medical supplies through the system.

Republican campaign signs defaced with Nazi symbols

Campaign signs for two Asian-American candidates in separate Tarrant County races were vandalized recently in Arlington with swastikas and another Nazi symbol. The vandal apparently targeted a handful of signs belonging to Gerald Kern, who is seeking the Arlington City Council District 7 at-large seat in the May 10 election, and Alex Kim, who is in the Republican primary runoff on May 27 for County Criminal Court No. 3.
